A surprise proposal, held carefully
There’s something unique about photographing a proposal before one person knows it’s about to happen.
For Cass and Michael, that meant documenting the moment as it unfolded, then allowing the rest of their time together to settle into something slower.
A proposal carries so much within such a short space of time. The anticipation beforehand, the moment itself, then everything that follows. Photographing it quietly means those small pieces can remain part of the story too.
Once the surprise had unfolded, there was time for photographs of Cass and Michael together, without needing to rush onto whatever came next.
The resulting collection holds both parts of the experience. The proposal itself and the quieter photographs that followed.

Planning a surprise proposal on the Mornington Peninsula
If you’re planning to propose and would like the moment photographed, I’m Jo, a Mornington Peninsula photographer based on Boon Wurrung Country.
Surprise proposals are planned carefully so I can be there without taking you out of the experience. We can talk through the location, timing and the practical details beforehand, giving you one less thing to think about when the moment arrives.
Afterwards, there’s space to slow things down and spend some time together in front of the camera. Nothing overly staged or complicated, simply gentle guidance and room for the two of you to settle into what has just happened.
The photographs become a way back to the beginning of this particular chapter, including the parts you may not have noticed while you were living it.
